- ➤ Nuevo Progreso held Tourist Day festivities yesterday to send off some Winter Texans with live shows and folk dancing, and Arturo's offered a special meal with waiters in tuxedos — a tradition that marks the end of winter for many seasonal neighbors. KRGV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Texas Department of Transportation will host a networking event for small business owners at the Pharr District Conference Center — located at 600 West Interstate 2 — on April 16th. The mixer will let business owners with shops near construction projects meet TXDOT staff and contractors to learn about upcoming projects and available contracting opportunities. KRGV
- ➤ On March 20, the U.S. denied Mexico's special request for water in Tijuana from the Colorado River—citing long-standing low deliveries in the Rio Grande that have hurt local agriculture. An expert said that Mexico will still receive water but not in the manner it requested. KRGV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ DHR Health's computer systems have been down since a cyberattack on Thursday but clinics and hospitals remained open—except for cancelled Cath lab procedures. IT teams are working to restore the systems as some patients missed appointments and one San Antonio resident said his mother's cardiologist visit in McAllen was cancelled without notice. KRGV
- ➤ Health officials say seasonal allergies are affecting residents as tree pollen now causes symptoms and grass plus ragweed will likely keep allergy issues active until early summer—experts expect peak allergy season between May and September. Marinoff Nursery in Alamo is growing native plants with U.S. Fish and Wildlife and American Forests to help restore local wild areas. KRGV
