- ➤ On Saturday, dozens of volunteers from Texas A&M University Higher Education Center at McAllen helped care for the dogs at Palm Valley Animal Society during The Big Event — they took the dogs on walks, cleaned their cages, and prepped for an adoption event. The center partnered with the shelter to thank it for its community work. KRGV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Dario Flores, 38, was arrested after causing a six-vehicle crash on Expressway 83 near Alamo Saturday at 8 a.m. and was arraigned Sunday — he faces intoxication assault with a deadly weapon charge and a $50,000 bond as several individuals were hospitalized in stable condition. KRGV

- ➤ Rita Hernandez—executive director of Cameron County Education Initiative—secured a $216,750 grant from the Rio-South Texas Education & Community Development Foundation that will let the nonprofit expand its Medical Careers Training and Apprenticeship program. Rio Grande Guardian

- ➤ State Senator Adam Hinojosa opened his new field office for the Rio Grande Valley at Weslaco City Hall on Saturday when several mid-valley leaders attended a red ribbon cutting. The office, along with his locations in Brownsville and Raymondville, is open by appointment only to serve nearly one million constituents in his district. KRGV
- ➤ TxDOT will close eastbound Interstate 2 Frontage Road at Conway Avenue in Mission on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for concrete planting replacement at a railroad crossing—work planned to improve safety and ride quality. Drivers will follow signed detours—marking the alternate route—around the work zone. ValleyCentral.com
- ➤ On Saturday a local group protested outside Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz's McAllen office to oppose her votes to cut funding for veteran healthcare (PACT ACT), Medicaid and food support programs while increasing bank overdraft fees. The group requested a town hall (Mothers for Democracy) and her office said her record shows strong support for veterans and local disaster relief. KRGV
