CRIME NEWS

  • Two Mexican nationals were arrested for human smuggling after a six-mile chase ended in a crash when a white Ford SUV carrying five undocumented immigrants—including a teen guide—struck a Chevy truck, a power pole, and a fence last Thursday; they face up to 10 years in prison and $250,000 in fines if convicted.  Fox Rio Grande Valley
  • A bomb threat at the Brownsville port of entry triggered an FBI investigation and increased CBP security that delayed travel at bridges to Mexico—U.S. Embassy issued a security alert warning of heightened inspections and a Level 4 advisory for Tamaulipas.  Fox Rio Grande Valley
  • Juan Pedro Becerra, 70, from Donna was arrested after a video showed him hitting a dog and new evidence led authorities to act—he said he was disciplining the pet—and he now is held at Hidalgo County Jail awaiting arraignment.  Fox Rio Grande Valley
  • McAllen Police are searching for Jose Luis Hernandez (a 56-year-old man wanted for failing to register as a sex offender who may be driving a gray Toyota Avalon) and urge residents to call Crime Stoppers if he is seen.  Fox Rio Grande Valley

  • Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina has accepted the position of chairman of the Texas Border Coalition—he will lead efforts to unite border communities and push for policies that strengthen trade and local economic growth with officials in both Austin and Washington.  Rio Grande Guardian
