  • On March 29, the Farmers Market at Firemen's Park ran from 9:00 a.m. to noon and featured locally grown fruits, meats, and vegetables + educational programs for all ages.  Welcome Home RGV
  • Central Market on Ware returned Saturday, March 29 at 3301 N Ware Rd from 12-5 p.m. and featured free haircuts, live music, giveaways from Chick-fil-A including plush cows and food offer cards, and scholarship promotions from GA Beauty - Barber School.  Welcome Home RGV
  • LUPE’s 22nd Cesar Chavez March has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 26th at LUPE’s main office in San Juan due to severe flooding that impacted the area—organizers say the change will ensure the safety of participants and honor Chavez’s legacy. CRIME NEWS

  • 26-year-old Narciso Dominguez III pleaded guilty to attempting to mail packages containing narcotics after surveillance on May 23 found 19 kilograms of cocaine at a McAllen stash house—he faces sentencing on July 15 with up to life in prison and a $10 million fine.  KRGV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UTRGV has made a free student food pantry available at both Edinburg and Brownsville campuses to help students facing food insecurity. Students can order weekly food items online and about 100 students have used the service, university officials said.  KRGV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After nearly 20 inches of rain from a storm seen only once in 100 years on Thursday night, Hidalgo County drainage crews cleared floodwaters from homes and streets in the Mid-Valley—crews struggled with canals clogged by muddy debris. County officials said vacuum trucks and pumps will clear streets and clean-up efforts will continue through the weekend—emergency funds are being sought to add more resources.  KRGV
  • A few days after record-breaking rainfall damaged properties—cars, buildings and roads remained flooded across the Valley, local officials moved pumps to clear the water. County leaders and the governor declared disasters to aid recovery efforts.  ValleyCentral.com
