COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Edcouch and the World Kitchen Center hosted a free Grab and Go Lunch event for residents affected by flooding at noon Sunday, March 30 at the Edcouch Fire Station—200 W Santa Rosa—with supplies available while they lasted.  ValleyCentral.com
  • The McAllen Salvation Army aided flood victims by setting up a disaster response covering Starr, Hidalgo, Cameron, and Willacy Counties — it provided 1,122 meals, 1,361 drinks, and 960 snacks on Saturday and helped deliver essential supplies on Sunday at the McAllen Corps and Mercedes Community Center.  ValleyCentral.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Valley Symphony Orchestra will end its season on April 4 at 8 p.m. at the McAllen Performing Arts Center with its Romantic Reflections program, featuring Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 performed by pianist Andrey Ponochevny and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4.  Welcome Home RGV

  • Today, the McAllen Public Works crew is clearing debris and brush left over from Thursday’s heavy rainfall—city officials advise residents to place yard waste on the curbside and use the BAG IT! Program.  ValleyCentral.com
  • The city of McAllen today waived building permit requirements for flood-damaged home repairs to give residents a 90-day grace period to file insurance claims and begin repairs—other construction projects still need permits. Public Works is also clearing storm debris to help bring the city back to normal.  KRGV
