- ➤ The Boys and Girls Club is converting the old Bonham Elementary into a $26M Wellness and Opportunity Center that will offer free meals, sports and educational programs. The center will open in June and is funded by federal+state+private money. KRGV
- ➤ After a report of a possible weapon triggered a lockdown at Edcouch-Elsa High School, district officials held a press conference at the administration building today to confirm that the campus is secure + no weapon was found and no one was injured, although one student was detained. KRGV
- ➤ McAllen Public Library will waive overdue fees as part of its Star Wars-themed forgiveness program beginning Wednesday. Residents must return late or lost items to any branch by May 4 and can join the celebration featuring Star Wars characters. KRGV
- ➤ Many Texas students lose transfer credits when moving from community colleges to universities, costing time and money. South Texas College - a local transfer adviser - recommends planning ahead and confirming course transferability to meet degree requirements. The Texas Tribune
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting April 1, Texas will restrict SNAP benefits as recipients can no longer purchase candy and sweetened beverages to promote healthier eating for more than three million households. The new rules apply statewide to all retailers accepting SNAP. Click2Houston.com
