- ➤ Businesses and organizations are offering storm relief supplies and meals to residents affected by recent flooding in the Rio Grande Valley. Today, supplies are being distributed at Grace Point Fellowship (2601 Bothwell Road) and a shelter is open 24 hours at Harlingen Convention Center (701 Harlingen Heights Drive), while a free drive-through essential giveaway in Mission is planned for April 4 from 4 to 6 p.m. KRGV

- ➤ A 37-year-old motorcyclist lost control and fell off his Harley-Davidson early this morning on the 3600 block of Dove Avenue, sustaining fatal injuries — McAllen police said no other vehicles were involved and are investigating the accident. Fox Rio Grande Valley

- ➤ Sames Auto Group began its Test Drives for Smiles program in April and will donate $10 for every test drive to reach a goal of 2,000 drives. The month-long effort supports local charities and involves the community. ValleyCentral.com

- ➤ Linda Morales left her 2022 gray Infiniti X50 on Alamo Road during last week’s flood to seek shelter and when her alarm went off at 3:50 a.m. she returned to find it missing — local police suspect the vehicle may have been stolen. Fox Rio Grande Valley

- ➤ Dr. Daniel Covarrubias said at a meeting held at the Cambria Hotel in McAllen that the Texas Center for Border Economic and Enterprise Development will soon release two white papers on international trade—one on a North American Industrial Coordination Council and another on uniting digital border infrastructure. The proposals aim to align the industrial strengths of the US, Mexico and Canada to strengthen competitiveness and improve cross-border operations. Rio Grande Guardian

- ➤ Today at 9 a.m., the Hidalgo County Community Service Agency will accept in-person applications for low-income residents impacted by flooding—applicants must bring a completed form, valid ID, proof of income, photos of damage and proof of address at the Mercedes Recreation Center or the Pharr Development and Research Center. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ South Texas Health System stressed the importance of organ donation during National Donate Life Month and noted that Latinos, who fill much of the waiting list, are not donating enough. Tom Castañeda said one donor can save up to eight lives and affect 75 more—he urged people to register and discuss their wishes with loved ones, while the system reported five donors in the first quarter that saved 16 lives and promoted a candlelight vigil for awareness. - ➤ The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District launched its Health and Safety Operation buses and donation drive on Tuesday, April 1, to help families affected by recent floods and will continue supporting them until Friday, April 4. The buses provide wellness checks, social-emotional support and other assistance at stops like Carmen Anaya Elementary and Graciela Garcia Elementary, while donations are accepted at Dr. Daniel P. King College and University Center—entrance via Veterans and Bears Trail—from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ValleyCentral.com
- ➤ In April, Channel 5 News, Noticias RGV and Take 5 will start the Heart of the Valley campaign to share news on diabetes prevention and treatment in English — and Spanish. HEB and South Texas Health Systems will sponsor free diabetes screenings during the month to help educate the community about the epidemic in the RGV. KRGV
