ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 69 year old motorcyclist was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of North Conway Road and State Highway 107 at around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday after colliding with a Chevrolet Silverado and a Harley Davidson motorcycle—he was taken to a local hospital while investigators continue examining the crash.  KRGV

CRIME NEWS

  • A 13-year-old student from Truan Middle School was arrested after he threatened to shoot up La Feria Middle School last Friday—he faced terroristic threat charges and was booked into the Hidalgo County Juvenile Detention Center, with officials noting he made similar threats earlier that day.  Fox Rio Grande Valley
  • U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized alleged cocaine valued at $1,200,800 — extracted from three vehicles at Pharr, Hidalgo, and Anzalduas international crossings on April 11 and 12 — and arrested the drivers as criminal investigations began.  KRGV
  • McAllen police are searching for 17-year-old Jennifer Rodriguez who was reported missing on April 14 after she was last seen on April 11 in the 1100 block of East Cedar Avenue due to concerns for her wellbeing — anyone with information should contact McAllen Crime Stoppers at 956-687-8477.  KRGV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four international students at UT-RGV filed a federal lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security—saying that marking their status as terminated in the SEVIS system for minor, resolved criminal cases is unlawful. Their attorney argued that this action risks their education and job eligibility after the university ended their employment.  The Texas Tribune

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hidalgo County officials are fumigating nightly at 8 p.m. to combat a surge in mosquito counts after flooding pushed numbers to 100 per minute in some areas. Residents are urged to use EPA-approved insect repellent and remove standing water—steps that help lower the risk of mosquito-borne diseases—while authorities work to keep the public safe.  Fox Rio Grande Valley
  • Martha Perales lost part of her leg after a toenail infection worsened her diabetes and led to an amputation; she was later fitted for a prosthetic at a local McAllen shop. Dr. Luis Reyes said younger diabetics are increasingly suffering severe infections from nerve damage and poor circulation—raising concerns about the long-term health risks in the Valley.  KRGV
