  • City officials said the alligator spotted near the canal at 2nd Street and Pecan Boulevard on Monday was caught and safely relocated by professionals—residents are reminded to report unusual wildlife sightings and avoid approaching wild animals.  ValleyCentral.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hidalgo County Commissioner Ellie Torres stated at a press conference in south Pharr that lifting the nearly three-decade Tomato Suspension Agreement would hurt her precinct – importers and consumers could face disruptions if the U.S. Department of Commerce follows through on its withdrawal. This change would negatively impact the flow of Mexican tomatoes that have long benefited the area.  Rio Grande Guardian

HEALTH NEWS

  • South Texas Health System Behavioral will stream a free online seminar titled 'Let's Talk Mental Health' on May 1 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. via its Facebook page to help residents learn how to manage stress and boost well-being (the session aims to highlight mental health's impact on everyday life).  Rio Grande Guardian
  • South Texas Health System will launch its Cinco de Mammo initiative in May to remind residents to get regular mammograms for early breast cancer detection — offering reduced cash pricing on mammograms and bone density scans until May 31.
