- ➤ Hidalgo County deputies are searching for a Hispanic man seen in a red Ford Mustang with a black bumper who fled a shooting at a residence on the 3000 block of W. Mile 5 in rural Weslaco on May 3 at 1:46 a.m.—a 22-year-old party guest was shot near his vehicle and is in critical condition. ValleyCentral.com

- ➤ In western Hidalgo County, voters cast early ballots for a tax increase to fund fire and ambulance services and early returns show 537 votes opposed and 204 in favor — a measure that would make only Precinct 3 residents pay for the service, replacing a $70,000 private contract.
