- ➤ Buckner International is hosting its annual shoe drive to collect new shoes and socks for needy children and teenagers from May 1 through May 30 — donations must be brand new and closed-toed. - ➤ Angel David Salas-Herrera, a 19-year-old Mexican national, was arrested for allegedly trying to drive a stolen Jeep into Mexico after police chased the vehicle on May 2 in Cameron County and it crashed near Brownsville; he appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Nadia S. - ➤ Valley farmer Dale Murden said he relies on water from Mexico for his specialty crops amid drought and unpredictable weather in the Rio Grande Valley. He said the $280 million emergency funding approved by Congress offsets costs while Mexico has agreed to release up to 420,000 acre-feet of water — farmers can apply for the funds until May 22nd.
