- ➤ Multiple Memorial Day events are planned across the Valley, with a ceremony today at Edinburg Municipal Auditorium honoring fallen heroes, and additional ceremonies in Mission, Pharr, McAllen, and San Benito on May 26—Weslaco will hold a cemetery cleanup on May 24 while South Padre Island offers a fireworks show on May 25 to remember those who served our country. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Castillo family was held liable after 8-year-old Caleb Ramirez died in a 2024 crash in Pharr — the jury found that negligent driving caused his death — and must pay $80 million to his family. KRGV
- ➤ Hidalgo County authorities are searching for a 39-year-old man who did not follow sex offender registration rules; he is described as 5'8" (weighing about 180 pounds with black hair and brown eyes) and anyone with information is urged to call the sheriff's office immediately. - ➤ Brandon Dion Garza, 24, was charged with capital murder in Pharr after he allegedly choked his 7-year-old brother during a fight at about 3:20 a.m. (on the 900 block of West Caffery Avenue) and now faces a $2 million bond plus possible life without parole or the death penalty. KRGV
- ➤ McAllen police charged Dionicio Luna Aguirre, 40, on Thursday with two counts of intoxication manslaughter after a fatal DWI crash at around 2 a.m. on May 17 at the intersection of N. 2nd St. and Nolana Avenue that killed 54-year-old Juan Carlos Perez and 20-year-old Gianncarlo Corriabustos — he is held on a $600,000 bond.
