- ➤ Estero Llano Grande State Park in Weslaco now offers free Ecorover Track Chairs + electric wheelchairs with large wheels for visitors with disabilities as part of a statewide initiative by Texas Parks and Wildlife; the park has also upgraded its entry to be ADA compliant and will make further parking improvements. - ➤ The La Villa ISD board censured trustee Just Morales for six months after her DWI arrest, and she may only join meetings via Zoom during this time — parents have expressed concerns about the district's accountability. Fox Rio Grande Valley
- ➤ Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill that will add $8.5 billion in funding to public schools, giving each student an extra $55 for operational costs, $45 for staff raises and $10 for safety upgrades when it takes effect in September. An educator in the Rio Grande Valley said the new funding is needed but warned that a voucher program may lower enrollment further — public schools still face budget deficits — as districts work to adjust resources.
