- ➤ McAllen Parks and Recreation launched over 600 family summer programs — including sports, arts, and crafts — to keep locals active and engaged. Deputy Director Carina Jimenez said families can register online to join these activities throughout the season. ValleyCentral.com

- ➤ Two individuals stole a car and drove it across the border into Mexico, and the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office is asking the public & urging anyone with useful information to contact them as the investigation continues. Fox Rio Grande Valley
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City leaders celebrated on Monday the completion of a $1 million Regional Detention Facility drainage project that took nine months to finish and will collect runoff water to relieve flooding on McAllen’s northwest side—improving over 5,500 feet of ditch and marking the final project from the 2018 bond election. - ➤ Starting Saturday, June 21, the Disaster Recovery Centers will open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and be closed on Sundays. Weekday hours remain 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and the centers will be closed on Juneteenth, June 19—reopening on June 20 at 8 a.m.—while eligible residents in Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr and Willacy counties may access FEMA assistance. - ➤ Today, the Department of Defense and Border Patrol announced the deployment of Stryker vehicles to the Rio Grande Valley to boost border security. Officials said the vehicles will enhance mobility—improving surveillance and response times amid concerns over illegal crossings and smuggling. Fox Rio Grande Valley
- ➤ Disaster recovery centers in the Rio Grande Valley are changing their weekend hours as FEMA and the SBA adjust in-person help for residents affected by severe March storms. Starting Saturday, June 21, centers will open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and close on Sundays — weekday hours remain 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. with closures on June 19 for Juneteenth and the Fourth of July. - ➤ Channel 5 News and the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance are hosting an organ donor registration drive in honor of late Channel 5 Sports Director Dave Brown, a kidney transplant recipient who urged residents to sign up.
