  • Quinta Mazatlan is hosting summer events to provide kids and families with fun and educational activities — Victoria Villarreal said the programs will run throughout the summer.  KRGV

CRIME NEWS

  • A Mexican national pleaded guilty to possessing narcotics with intent to distribute after authorities discovered seven pounds of cocaine during a McAllen traffic stop and later seized 108 pounds in another transaction, and he was sentenced to four years in federal prison—he is expected to face removal proceedings due to his immigration status.  ValleyCentral.com
  • U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized $815,475 in unreported cash — hidden in a 44-year-old man’s 2025 Honda Odyssey — at the Anzalduas International Bridge on June 16.  ValleyCentral.com
  • A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was injured during a Monday traffic stop when a motorcyclist on Freddy Gonzalez and US 281 in Edinburg did not stop, which led to a pursuit from Donna that ended in a crash and a scuffle—forcing the trooper to be taken to a local hospital.  ValleyCentral.com
  • In Mission, Caleb Ramos, a Vallucos gang member, was charged with first-degree murder when his Cadillac ran over fellow gang member Marco Macias after he had slashed tires on Macias’ property — Ramos now faces up to life in prison after being released on a $2 million bond.  ValleyCentral.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • CBP agriculture specialists intercepted three invasive pests at the Pharr International Bridge after finding one pest in a May 16 shipment of banana leaves, dasheen and chayote and two pests in June 5 shipments of blackberry, blueberry, raspberry and coconut. All shipments were returned to Mexico – the interceptions support efforts to protect local agriculture.  KRGV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Texas licensing board announced it would develop a less expensive exam for psychologists after Gov. Greg Abbott (the governor) approved the plan in the state budget to address a mental health shortage. The board said it will seek input from stakeholders across the country and hopes other states will join its effort.  The Texas Tribune
