  • Sabrina Walker Hernandez, a leadership coach from Edinburg who helped local nonprofits with board education and revenue efforts, passed away after battling two cancers. Tributes are coming from many community groups that remember her lasting impact on South Texas.  Rio Grande Guardian

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, July 12—Texas DPS said—a 2006 Toyota Tundra lost control on FM 2812 north of Edinburg, striking a fence and light pole; the unbelted passenger, Jose A. Reyna, 65, died at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance while the driver remains in treatment.  ValleyCentral.com

  • Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office is investigating a sexual assault in Mission after a woman said a man attacked her in his vehicle on July 9 + authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.  KRGV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Pharr Economic Development Corporation President Victor Perez told local realtors that a tsunami of new projects will soon transform the area with industrial, commercial and retail developments—he highlighted a million square foot project by Majestic Realty as a key example. Perez said further plans will expand the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge and boost broadband service—efforts aimed at strengthening connectivity and supporting a skilled workforce.  Rio Grande Guardian

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Big Beautiful Bill, signed on Independence Day, cut nearly $800 billion from Medicaid and Medicare programs — a move that may leave around 11 million people without coverage. The law includes an 80-hour work requirement and will affect more than 350,000 Medicaid enrollees in the Valley after the midterm elections.  ValleyCentral.com
