- ➤ McAllen ISD will send a trailer full of donated items to help flood victims today in Kerr County. The items come from the Fill the Bus for Kerr County campaign—ended early because of heavy community support—and the trailer will go to the Food Bank of San Antonio. KRGV

- ➤ Federal harboring charges were dropped for Juan Ramirez Cortez, the Taco Ole manager arrested on July 10 at the North Conway Ave location in Mission, but he still faces misdemeanor charges for illegal hiring and employment violations+ officials noted he processed paperwork and wages for workers. - ➤ Hector Neptaly Reyes Mendoza was found guilty of murdering 47-year-old Jose Edgardo Sorto with a machete in McAllen on July 14 — he was sentenced to 60 years in prison with 353 days of credit served. ValleyCentral.com
- ➤ Yesterday afternoon in McAllen, a heavy presence of police, Border Patrol, and first responders gathered near Hackberry Avenue to address an unknown incident (official details have not been released). Fox Rio Grande Valley
- ➤ A court hearing was held Tuesday in Edinburg for Gustavo Mireles, who was convicted for the 2001 murder of Mary Jane Rebollar after DNA evidence linked him to the crime. - ➤ On July 14, the U.S. Department of Commerce terminated the Tomato Suspension Agreement that kept tariffs off Mexican tomatoes and required inspections, a move praised by the Florida Tomato Exchange but criticized by Texas and Arizona growers. At a press conference held at GR Fresh in south McAllen, the Texas International Produce Association warned that tomato prices may rise by fall and local jobs along the border could be affected — officials say the changes could impact up to 50,000 positions.
