- ➤ The city of Donna and Operation Christmas RGV will host their third annual back-to-school event on July 25 at 307 Miller Avenue in Donna, where 25 community organizations will offer free school supplies, entertainment, and prizes for students arriving with a parent. The event runs from 4:30 p.m. — 7 p.m. or until supplies last. KRGV

- ➤ Jeffrey Salcedo Cantú joined the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation as its new international business manager to attract investors from Mexico. He said the city is attractive because of its quality of life—good schools, strong agriculture, and connected roads. Rio Grande Guardian
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Village in the Valley held a voter registration event in McAllen on Thursday to answer residents' questions about Texas voting laws and honor former congressman and civil rights activist John Lewis. Sarah Barrera from South Texas Grassroots Coalition of Rio Grande Valley said hundreds of thousands of voters did not turn out in the last election + the group hopes to boost participation next time. - ➤ Commissioner Sid Miller & Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz held a press conference on July 18 to announce drought relief funding through the 1944 Water Treaty Agricultural Assistance Program. The funding comes from a $280 million grant agreement between the Texas Department of Agriculture & the United States Department of Agriculture to help local farmers recover from water shortages. - ➤ On Thursday, South Texas Health System celebrated 10 years of its Robotic Surgery program in Edinburg, marking over 4,000 robotic procedures mainly for gallbladders, hernias, and colon surgeries. Officials said the program helps patients recover faster and spend less time in the hospital — a first in the area. KRGV
- ➤ STHS Edinburg hosted a community event on July 17th to mark 10 years of its robotic surgery program—leaders honored surgeons and staff with milestone lapel pins and introduced the new da Vinci 5 system.
