  • Antonio Ramirez Robledo, a 57-year-old drug smuggler from Progreso who helped ship cocaine from the Rio Grande Valley to Georgia, avoided prison Monday—receiving a time served sentence after nearly 20 months in jail following his guilty plea.  ValleyCentral.com
  • McAllen police are searching for 20-year-old suspect Luis Leonardo Gonzalez + who robbed a victim at gunpoint at the 2800 block of Redwood Avenue on July 17, is described as 5'6 and 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes and was last seen in Donna, and they ask anyone with information to call 956-687-8477.  KRGV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Region One Education Service Center and the McAllen Economic Development Corporation teamed up to help new teachers in McAllen through an Alternative Teacher Certification Program—three candidates were sponsored at a ceremony held yesterday that supports mentoring and 32 teaching certifications.   • Local police departments in the Rio Grande Valley face shortages as many officers choose reserve roles that pay up to $50 an hour but offer no benefits.
