- ➤ VAIL, a Rio Grande Valley non-profit, will host a free +Walk and Roll event+ at Linear Park in Brownsville on July 26 from 9 a.m. to noon to celebrate 35 years of the ADA and promote inclusion and diversity. KRGV
- ➤ The city of McAllen announced 'Christmas Across America' as the theme for its 12th annual Holiday Parade scheduled for the first Saturday in December—officials said the event will feature participants from across the country and from Mexico. KRGV
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 22-year-old woman and another occupant were hospitalized after a suspected DWI single-vehicle crash was reported around 11:38 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of State Highway 107 and North Bryan Road—police said alcohol is suspected and the investigation continues. KRGV
- ➤ McAllen police responded to a welfare check on the 2700 block of Frontage Road at 12:56 p.m. Tuesday and found delivery driver Greg Alan Franklin, 57, from Silver Springs, Florida, unresponsive in the cab of an 18-wheeler—initial reports show no foul play and he appeared to be waiting for a cargo delivery. - ➤ Edinburg police detained a 14-year-old incoming freshman from Vanguard Academy for a threat against the school, and she was held after a June 23 incident at Barrientes Middle School involving an alleged kitchen knife — she now faces admission to a juvenile detention facility as the investigation continues. - ➤ Local advocate Cecilia Mata of Mujeres Unidas said fewer domestic violence victims have visited the shelter because they fear ICE raids and arrest, which adds to existing barriers such as poverty and transportation issues (many still call for help).
