  • Former McAllen city employee Rosa Elena Pedraza used an elderly man’s bank account details to make over $124,000 in unauthorized transactions from February 2022 through May 2025—she was arrested on July 11 and is no longer a civil service director.  KRGV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • RGV Vipers partnered with Driscoll Health to host a Back-To-School Expo at Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg that provided Rio Grande Valley students free backpacks, school supplies, and essential medical services — vaccinations and physicals to help them prepare for the new school year.  KRGV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Workforce Solutions Cameron—focused on local workforce development—received a $150,000 grant from the Texas Workforce Commission to train 78 workers for high-demand construction and transportation jobs in the Rio Grande Valley—a move that aims to boost the local economy.  KRGV
  • On Thursday, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez sent a letter urging the Texas House and Senate Redistricting Committees to hold a field hearing in the Rio Grande Valley so local residents can voice their concerns. He criticized Governor Greg Abbott for ignoring local needs—arguing the region deserves the same attention as larger urban areas.  ValleyCentral.com
