- ➤ Former Progreso mayor Gerardo Alaniz was sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison and fined $15,000 for a cocaine trafficking scheme that operated from 2020 to 2022—he will surrender himself by August 22nd to begin serving his sentence. Fox Rio Grande Valley
