Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 1st of August.
Good morning, McAllen.
🏘️ Community
The McAllen community has come together to help 72-year-old Jesus Tamez Sanchez after local rescuer Esmer Garcia spotted his damaged home on Covina Street; volunteers donated food, supplies + free roof repairs are underway by Wolf on Roofs Construction following Garcia’s call for assistance earlier this week.
🏛️ Government
Water returned to Weslaco last Friday after a two-hour power outage disrupted service and halted operations at Happiness Cupcakes.
The city said palm fronds touching power lines caused the outage and residents might notice brief air in the pipes while water remains safe to drink (boiling not needed).
Mission Fire Department will add three off-road utility vehicles — funded by a $200,000 border grant — to help crews reach canal banks, bike trails, and brush areas.
Two vehicles have 100-gallon water tanks and hoses, and they will begin service next week.
