- ➤ The city of McAllen and McAllen Independent School District held a ribbon cutting for Morris-Perez Park, a new $1.4 million recreational space built under budget and open daily from morning until 11 p.m. Land provided by the school district was transformed — unused land became a park — to serve students and the wider community. - ➤ Eagle Scouts will work this weekend — installing 75 new directional signs along the six-mile Mission Hike and Bike Trail to boost safety and help first responders reach anyone in need of aid. Some sections of the trail will be temporarily closed until the project is completed by Sunday afternoon. KRGV
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A GMC Canyon pickup truck collided with an Edinburg dump truck on 10th Avenue at Schunior Road after running a stop sign, causing a fuel leak and road closure—city crews and the fire department cleared the spill while the driver was treated at DHR Health. KRGV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 22-year-old man pleaded guilty on Thursday in rural Edinburg — he was sentenced to 15 years for his role in a kidnapping that led to the murder of Teodoro Martinez, whose body was discovered in a burning vehicle in March 2022. KRGV

- ➤ PSJA Independent School District unveiled a renovated press box and suites at PSJA Stadium yesterday morning to serve more than 12,000 fans and honor longtime trustee Carlos Villegas Jr—who has been the voice of Bear football for over three decades. The upgrades will boost the game day experience as the district kicks off a new football season. KRGV
