ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At 4 p.m. today, a fire near FM 506 and Tiocano Road in La Feria destroyed a family's home and several vehicles—leaving them homeless and in urgent need of clothes and essentials—as investigators work to determine the cause.  Fox Rio Grande Valley
  • Weslaco firefighters quickly contained a fire at Sevilla Cafe that forced a temporary closure but left no injuries—an investigation is underway as community members rally to help the local eatery.  Fox Rio Grande Valley

CRIME NEWS

  • Hidalgo County authorities said they are seeking community help to locate 21-year-old suspect Giovanni Palomino after a violent Palm View home invasion over the weekend in which he allegedly assaulted a victim and stole a cell phone and vehicle — they believe he may have crossed into Mexico and urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers.  Fox Rio Grande Valley
  • A fatal car crash in Mission at the intersection of First Street and Slabo Avenue took the life of a 24-year-old man driving a red Chevy Avalanche after he hit an unoccupied Honda Civic — Mission Police reported that his failure to buckle up contributed to the tragedy and urged drivers to use their seatbelts.  Fox Rio Grande Valley

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas now bans the sale and marketing of THC vape pens unless they are sold through the state Compassionate Use program—those who break the law may face up to one year in jail and fines of $4,000. Vendors and law enforcement are worried the ban will push sales underground and limit access for medical users.  Fox Rio Grande Valley
  • Today, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn praised NADBank for launching its $400 million Water Resiliency Fund—offering $100 million in grants and $300 million in low to zero interest loans—to help secure water for border communities such as McAllen. He said he will support additional funding to boost water conservation for agriculture and ensure a steady supply.  Rio Grande Guardian

  • Federal agents warn that buying pills online may expose local families to counterfeit drugs laced with fentanyl—posing a life-threatening risk as cartels and online sellers exploit technology.
