- ➤ Federal court records show that 75-year-old Primitivo Doria, a fugitive who escaped from custody in El Paso on Aug. 6 while on a work detail at Fort Bliss, was arrested Wednesday at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen and remains in custody—he will appear in federal court on Oct. 14. KRGV

- ➤ Officials held a groundbreaking for a new Sam's Club and Fuel Station in Weslaco (located at Barbee Drive and FM 1015) last Thursday. The $25 million project is set to create over 200 jobs and will be completed by September 2026. KRGV

- ➤ On Thursday, Mission CISD received a $100,000 grant from Workforce Solutions to create its Healthcare Internship Fund for 120 high school students in health science programs at two campuses. The program will train students as medical assistants, lab technicians, and phlebotomists — after finishing prerequisite courses they will begin a six-week clinical internship. KRGV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On August 26, DHS waived many environmental laws to speed up building five miles of a 30-foot wall at the Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge in Hidalgo and Starr counties—part of a plan to build 100 miles of wall along the southwest border. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Hidalgo County Health & Human Services Department opened the first OnMed CareStation in the Rio Grande Valley at its McAllen clinic on Wednesday, where residents checked vital signs and consulted with licensed providers via telehealth.
