- ➤ Supply Pay, a FinTech company that factors invoices for Latin American farmers, has chosen its corporate HQ at the UT-Rio Grande Valley’s Center for Innovation and Commercialization in Weslaco—CEO William Steele said he picked Weslaco because he and his wife, who runs a local restaurant, live there—while teams in the US, Mexico and Brazil will support its operations. - ➤ City Manager Isaac Tawil and Mayor Javier Villalobos met with landlords from the 17th Street entertainment district at city hall after tenants saw their electricity cut for health and safety violations following an assault on a police officer. One landlord, Aziz Showery, questioned why officials took weeks to reach him—he is a well-known businessman in McAllen. Rio Grande Guardian
- ➤ On Tuesday, Weslaco Mayor Adrian Gonzalez and Governor Greg Abbott made a special announcement at the Payne Aviation Hangar where two proclamations awarded $18 million for the Mid-Valley Airport expansion — $10 million for a runway extension and $8 million for water and drainage improvements; Gonzalez later presented Abbott with the key to the city.
