  • A Weslaco family said their home remains unfinished a year after hiring contractor Jorge Trevino who abandoned the remodel and is accused of a scam by using their personal information to apply for loans—leaving the family to live in unsafe conditions.  KRGV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas State Technical College chancellor Mike Reeser praised a new federal workforce initiative that lets CTE students access Pell Grants—this change will quickly help Texans gain skills for high-paying jobs in emerging projects. He made his remarks during a roundtable hosted by US Sen. John Cornyn.  Rio Grande Guardian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas currently has over 100,000 DACA recipients in limbo as a lawsuit led by Attorney General Ken Paxton challenges the program's legality—immigration attorney Carlos Moctezuma Garcia said many dreamers may be forced to move if work permit renewals are blocked.  KRGV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A Mission family hired Cadena Design for a $75,000 renovation to update two bedrooms and a bathroom for an aging, handicapped mother, but after a year the work remains incomplete. Estela Perez said the project was expected to finish in 14 weeks yet still lacks doors, baseboards, and proper safety features—Cadena Design plans to complete the work by the end of October.  KRGV

  • On Oct 3, 2025, high school football games saw teams like the Grulla Gators beat the Hidalgo Pirates and the Carthage Bulldogs win their matchups. The First & Goal Highlights report detailed final scores from each game, showing strong performances throughout the region.  KRGV
