- ➤ U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez of McAllen criticized a bill he voted against at a South Texas Alliance of Mayors event, saying the measure will cut $500 billion in Medicare and $300 billion in SNAP while benefiting the ultra wealthy — a change he warned would hurt healthcare, businesses, and services in the Rio Grande Valley — and urged local voters to engage with Congress.
