🎭 Culture
Today, McAllen Fiesta de Palmas begins at the McAllen Convention Center (a popular local venue) with live music, dance shows, and fireworks that bring the community together.
The three-day festival is free on Friday while Saturday and Sunday will cost $10 after 4 PM (including access to the HEB Helping Here Pumpkin Patch area).
🏛️ Government
The Mission Animal Shelter is now run by city employees after the city ended its ties with RGV Humane Society in January and a national organization took over in March.
The shelter is building a new outdoor interactive area for over 150 animals—$50,000 from the Mission Economic Development Corporation is funding the project—while over $1 million from the city budget supports staff salaries, vaccines and services despite a projected $165,000 deficit.
