- ➤ The Junior League of McAllen will host a skeet shooting event at the Coyote Arms Shooting Center on Saturday, Nov. 15—proceeds will help fund grants and scholarships provided by the league. KRGV
- ➤ Elizabeth Suarez, CEO of the McAllen Chamber, said the chamber and the City have built an even stronger partnership by hosting 58 programs, over 360 events, and reaching more than 65,000 participants to help small businesses. She praised City Manager Isaac 'Ike' Tawil for using city funds to drive results—highlighting a clear plan for continued growth in McAllen. Rio Grande Guardian
- ➤ The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will hold its second annual Manual for Success Men’s Conference and Expo on Nov. 5 at the Memorial Event Center in Edinburg. The full-day event (built to help men grow, connect, and lead) will offer practical tips on money matters, health, and leadership. KRGV

- ➤ At the Mercedes Public Library, a permanent exhibit honors the Valley’s first Mexican-American college—Colegio Jacinto Treviño. The college was founded in Mercedes in the late 1960s—and was attended by Lupe Cásares after local families faced discrimination, later moving to San Juan before closing in the 1970s. KRGV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Region One Education Service Center secured $66.7 million for its GEAR UP program over seven years to help more than 11,000 middle school students prepare for college — the funding came with strong bipartisan support in Congress. Rio Grande Guardian
- ➤ Region One held a robotics scrimmage on Oct. 17 where over 100 high school students built robots and learned problem-solving skills. Five local schools took part and Region One will host another scrimmage on Nov. 15—promising more hands-on STEM learning. KRGV
- ➤ McAllen ISD received nearly $55,500 from the TECHY grant to assist 274 students from families experiencing homelessness with school supplies, clothing, hygiene items, food, snacks and transportation assistance. Social workers will use the funds to connect students to community resources and support services—ensuring equal access to education. KRGV
