- ➤ On Friday, Point Isabel ISD staff distributed Thanksgiving meals to more than 40 families, serving 105 students and over 20 employees in need—donations came from community partners and a district food drive. The effort helped low-income households secure a much-needed meal before the holiday. KRGV

- ➤ President Wendy Herman of ABC Texas Coastal Bend and Rio Grande Valley Council visited the Rio Grande Valley Partnership offices in Weslaco + state Sen. Adam Hinojosa joined as a special guest at a meeting with local contractors. She encouraged more contractors to join for education, networking and competition in the construction industry. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Elizabeth Suarez of McAllen Economic Development Corporation said that McAllen will benefit when the World Cup is in Monterrey next summer—local hotels are preparing to offer extra lodging for visitors from a crowded northern region. City officials and local businesses are coordinating strategies with hotels to support rising retail sales during the tournament. Rio Grande Guardian
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Since July 2024, Weslaco ISD has offered a dropout recovery program for students aged 18 to 26 to earn their high school diploma—teachers trained in trauma support guide lessons—and the district tailors class schedules for working students and parents; 20 students are enrolled now with hopes to expand the program in the future. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Dozens of law enforcement officers and first responders from nearly 30 agencies took part in a full-scale emergency response exercise at McAllen International Airport last Friday. Volunteers acted as victims and officials tested a new patient tracking system—used to tag and transport travelers—for more realistic drills, airport director Jeremy Santoscoy said. KRGV

- ➤ Valley Tennis Academy in Mission lost access to its courts at Cimarron Golf Course when the Mission Economic Development Organization changed the lease in August and set Oct. 31 as the end date after four years of practice. The 150-member academy now practices at Bentsen Palm Park—where longer commutes and poor court quality worry some members—and is searching for a new permanent training facility. KRGV
- ➤ The UTRGV Vaqueros ended their inaugural football season on Saturday with a 33-14 win over East Texas A&M — fans cheered the milestone win and are excited for next season. KRGV
