COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Food Bank RGV received a $150,000 grant from the Maximus Foundation to stock its resource centers in Pharr, Mission, Edcouch and Elsa. The funds — distributed over three years — will help lessen transportation barriers for families who rely on the food bank, which serves over 93,000 people weekly.  KRGV

CRIME NEWS

  • The Rio Grande Valley District Attorney Coalition has kicked off a No Refusal DWI Enforcement Campaign today, which means suspects who refuse a breath test will face a blood search warrant issued by on-call magistrates—this measure aims to reduce impaired-driving fatalities during the busy holiday season and will run until Friday, Jan. 2, 2026.  KRGV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Ralph Garcia, interim chief operating officer for McAllen Economic Development Corporation, said the agency worked on 25 active projects covering 3 million square feet, expected to create 8,000 jobs and boost the local economy by about $5 billion. He noted companies from France+Sweden+Mexico+the US+Japan and state leads focused on manufacturing and distribution are helping drive these ongoing efforts.  Rio Grande Guardian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • McAllen International Airport maintained its largest share of the region’s passenger market with about 863,000 passengers and a 48% share, as reported by airport director Jeremy Santoscoy at a recent Economic Development Corporation meeting. He added that the government shutdown did not affect operations—plans to restore the suspended Mexico City route and expand the airport are underway.  Rio Grande Guardian

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Rio Grande Valley Diabetes Association is urging local residents to watch their portions this Thanksgiving to help manage blood sugar levels—Dr. Luis Reyes advises careful meal planning as families gather for meals. He stresses that paying attention to what and how much is eaten can make a difference in diabetes management.  KRGV
  • With Thanksgiving approaching, gastroenterologist Dr. Juliana Yang from UT Health RGV advised locals to eat slowly, take small bites—drink water and watch sodium and sugar levels—to avoid feeling heavy and sleepy. She also recommended light exercise after the meal to ease digestion.  KRGV
