- ➤ U.S. Army veteran David Torresvela received a full roof replacement in Edinburg this week from a national program partnership among Purple Heart Homes, Owens Corning, and XYZ Roofing that ended years of leaks for his family before the next rain. KRGV

- ➤ Irma Gonzalez, owner of the Tortilleria Factory in McAllen, said tamale sales dropped 25% as rising ingredient costs forced her to raise prices from $10 to $12 per dozen this holiday season. KRGV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The South Pole Illuminated Festival is underway at the McAllen Convention Center until Dec. 28 — it features a real ice rink and free entry for kids 12 and under on Wednesdays and Thursdays. KRGV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ KRGV staff found unclaimed funds when a Texas Comptroller website search revealed amounts for employees. A free claim assistance event will be held on Thursday, Dec. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 200 S. 10th St. #301 in McAllen (photo I.D. required). KRGV
- ➤ Texas officials are finalizing a draft plan with USDA to prevent the New World Screwworm from affecting livestock — industry groups say some measures do not reflect current practices and warn risk will rise in spring.
