COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ An 18-year-old driver wrapped his car in Christmas lights to celebrate the season in the Rio Grande Valley on Thursday, Dec. 18. The Texas Department of Public Safety said the lights must not flash or cover license plates, tail lights, mirrors or driver view & violators could face tickets. KRGV
- ➤ Residents in McAllen are celebrating the season as some decorate their cars with Christmas lights. The state rules require that the lights do not flash, block license plates, tail lights or driver views and cannot use red and blue exclusively, according to DPS. KRGV
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Customs broker Jorge Torres explained that USMCA hearings held in Washington, D.C. have begun as the agreement is set for renewal in July 2026 — potential tariff changes may impact the South Texas border region. Rio Grande Guardian

- ➤ Acting Comptroller Hancock said a 2024 study finds the Port of Brownsville supports 101,073 jobs and adds $11.9 billion to Texas’ GDP. The deepwater seaport — key to international trade — is starting $226.9 million in improvements to boost growth. Rio Grande Guardian
