EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UTRGV is moving third-year engineering classes to its Brownsville campus this fall to reduce long commutes — adding 3,000 course seats and planning fourth-year classes by 2027 after task force data showed frequent trips from lower Valley students. KRGV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ County crews are setting up mobile pumps and cleaning drainage ditches in flood-prone areas such as Las Milpas in preparation for severe weather expected this week. Officials warn residents to stay home and check local weather updates during the storm's approach. KRGV
- ➤ County judges from Hidalgo, Starr, Willacy and Cameron held a press conference Monday, May 18 at the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council in Weslaco to discuss prevention and detection of the New World screwworm, a parasitic fly that attacks livestock, pets and wildlife as it moves north from Mexico.
