If your dog or cat doesn't have a microchip yet, here's a free fix. The city of McAllen will host a free microchip event so lost pets can be identified and returned home. Texas Border Business says Palm Valley Animal Society staff will administer the chips at the clinic.

  • Open to McAllen residents only
  • Service is first come, first served, while supplies last
  • Dogs and cats must be at least 2 months old
  • Organizer: city Health, Code Compliance and Animal Care Services

You'll need proof that you live inside McAllen city limits. We'd bring a valid ID and a McAllen utility bill, which is what Fox Rio Grande Valley lists. Only 250 chips are available, so get there early.
