If you've got little ones, Retama Park has a new place to play. City leaders held a ribbon-cutting Wednesday for the all-inclusive playground. It has a vibrant green playset, a shade roof structure, accessible turf and a wheelchair ramp. The city says its Grants Department, the McAllen Housing Commission and Hidalgo County Economic Development helped make it happen.
The ceremony also highlighted two more projects. Camp McAllen now has seven new picnic shelters, a parkour fitness course, a butterfly garden and shaded fishing docks. At Los Encinos Turf Field, the East Palomino baseball and softball fields became a soccer facility with a new 220-by-135-foot synthetic turf field.
Los Encinos' new soccer field covers about 29,700 square feet
