If you live in eastern Hidalgo County, here's a flood idea worth knowing. Elsa officials held a Thursday meeting on a proposal to turn two gravel pits into retention ponds. The ponds would hold extra rainwater and help reduce flooding in nearby neighborhoods and along roadways.
Telemundo 40 reports the aim is to hold the water before it reaches the Laguna Madre. The city manager said the study won't cost Elsa residents anything. The Texas Water Development Board will put money toward it.
